“History of Media” by I.M. Dyakonova was published in 1956 and ten years later republished in Iran in translation into Persian. In 1985, an abridged version, with some changes, was published in English in The Cambridge History of Iran. The colossal erudition of I.M. Dyakonova gave him direct access to Akkadian (Assyrian-Babylonian), ancient Persian and ancient written sources, as well as archaeological data. All other researchers who wrote about Media were forced, to one degree or another, to use information from second and even third hands. The proposed book therefore remains the most thorough source of information on the history of Media.
